Pregnancy awareness week

Pregnancy Week or Pregnancy Awareness Week is observed with the notion to promote and educate women and people on the need of adopting healthy lifestyle for a healthy mother and healthy baby. It teaches and educates people on stressing on issues of healthy pregnancy and safe motherhood. It is a way of reminding women that as soon as they get pregnant they should start attending antenatal care.

Through this awareness initiative pregnant women get assistance on their babies and pregnancy.  It also focusses on the various rights of pregnant women and some of the important things to know about pregnancy. There are numerous things that is important to know about pregnancy like the right time have a baby, as before conceiving a women should be mentally and physically ready. There are a lot of tests that needs to be done before getting pregnant, like both parents undergoing HIV tests. These are important as couples may be knowing or staying together for long but these tests would prevent the transmission of any serious disease or health problem between the couple and baby. A thorough gynecologist consultation is required and recommended.

Some of the important things that one should do during pregnancy are as mentioned here:

– Get tested: visit the nearest health care center and get tested for HIV, diabetes, hypertension, measles and syphilis.

– Pregnancy and diet: nutrition plays a vital role during pregnancy. It is not only important for the health of the mother, but is also important for the development and growth of the baby. Special care and caution should be practiced on what we eat and how we live. Everything that a pregnant mother puts in directly affects the baby. Having nutritious foods with all essential element like proteins, carbohydrates and fats in a balanced proportion is essential.

– Exercise: recommended physical activities from an expert is advised. It is important to get engaged in some sort of physical movements like walking, light jogging or some yoga.

– Avoid unhealthy lifestyles: unhealthy lifestyle practices like smoking and consuming alcohol and drugs could damage the unborn baby in womb which in turn might lead to premature birth, underweight and undeveloped babies.

– Use the social media to communicate and make people aware on the importance of proper awareness about pregnancy.

– Connect with your local area health organization/s to host community activities to educate women and people on the importance of safe and healthy pregnancy.

– Contact with schools and colleges to host competition and activities amongst students to convey the message of Pregnancy Awareness Week.

– Organize small discussion and awareness programs with RWA’s and residents in your local area to discuss important topics related to pregnancy.

Pregnancy is the most beautiful and miraculous phase in every women’s life. Let’s contribute on this Pregnancy Awareness Week towards conveying the message of healthy and safe pregnancy and motherhood in our society.
